What did you like the most at LDO ’08?

We had an absolute ball, and hope you did too. It would be great if you could give Westmere School your feedback – letting us know what was best for you and what you’d like to see more of.

You can use the comments form at the bottom of this section.

For example – did you make it to the back field or were you too captivated by the action on the main stage to move?

I’d heard about the hair braiding entrepreneurs and the nail bar proved a big hit but I totally missed the water bombs and the cream pie throwing. What would it have taken for you to get over there?

A tale of 2 Tshirts - Photo by SuzanneWhat did you think of the second stage? How did the kids manage activities and should it be a total kid zone or now that the event has grown should it be more professional?

Should Dancing With the Stars have been on the main stage or could we have done with more big acts on the second stage?

Did you place a bid or buy a raffle ticket? How could we give a greater profile to the raffle and Silent Auction? Are there any new money spinning ideas we could adopt from other similar events?

What did you think of the food? Did you see the way the kids munched into the fruit kebabs in pursuit of the marshmallows! Did we have enough food?

Could you get what you wanted? Could we have managed the drink any differently / better? A lot of people seemed to be imbibing in a safe environment where they could relax while the kids were entertained.

It seemed like there was different style for everyone there but my personal favourites were Steve Abel and The Bads. You also couldn’t deny the sheer star power of Jordan’s performance – brilliant!

And the dancing – was there enough room for you to kick up your heels?

I heard from a couple of outside visitors how they “had never seen anything like it before!”( in terms of scale, organisation and presentation.) The two people I’m talking about get to most of the kids events in Auckland and so that is high praise indeed.

Or the parent who took a look around during the finale and said they’d need to find a way to move to Westmere so their kids could enjoy such the a school.

What comments did you hear?

It seems there was so much on that everyone could do something completely different and still have a great time. There must be a dozens of stories out there.

Over to you for your thoughts, impressions, feedback and reviews. Just jot us down a few lines would to get the ball rolling, or longer if you feel inspired.

What did you see, hear or get excited about? What did you like the most? Maybe we need some more of those fruit kebabs to get the juices flowing

I thought it was a terrific event. Fantastic standard was set. All of the volunteers, particularly the organising committee put in so much effort and hard work and it paid off completely.

I thought the food was all fantastic – however, not enough stuff that kids adore. The fruit kebabs were a hit, but more sausage sizzles were required, and maybe a beer tent down on the bottom field. The kids stage was very disorganised and needed more parental control. That second stage has the potential to have more community involvement.

My child also had an accident on the bouncy castle. This was partly caused I believe by over crowding. Rides like this need to be carefully monitored, especially with little children. The bouncy castle was also closed with a small entrance, which is also not so good when you’ve got so many kids using it.

All in all a fantastic day. I thought the branding was amazing – WELL DONE!!!

Absolutely BRILLIANT day. The numbers attending were perfect! Crowded but not uncomfortably so. Only one period when the bar had any sort of queue. More Beer required!! The stage auctions warmed up the crowd for the obligatory participation with Jordan.

As a teacher at a decile 1 school in Glen Innes I was totally blown away by your “Little Day Out”. Definitely the best school fair I’ve been to in a long time. Good food, good wine, good fun! Caught up with old friends from university and met new people too.

Loved making badges. Enjoyed the “Stars” dancing. Thought it was wonderful to see a second generation sing “Who loves who the most?”with their parents! Laughed at the teachers being soaked by their students. Was interested to see the use of first names for staff… Hope you raised enough money to build your hall.

Well Done to all the children and adults who did all the hard work. Best $20 I’ve spent in a long time.

I had no idea what to expect really so was absolutely taken aback by the scale and organisation of the whole event.

I had an absolute ball, as did my kids. At least they told me they had a good time as I didn’t see much of them during the day. They would come back to dad for the odd cash injection and feed, but apart from that they were here, there and everywhere whilst I relaxed with friends in a really great environment.

I can’t wait for the next one to be honest although it’s going to be hard to top this years event!

Westmere parents like a drink I have discovered ;-)

WOW! This is the first time I’ve been to the biennial LDO at Westmere School and I’m so glad I didn’t miss this one. What a fantastic day out for the whole family.

The stalls and activities were very well supported. Food and wine – great selection. Those Ka Pai mussels – absolutely the best I’ve had!

The kids had a fab time spending their allocated funds and cruising around with their mates. Plenty of action for the preschoolers – real hits were the bouncy castle, police car & fire truck and of course the wonderful doggie-cart rides.

There was so much action on the back field we only ventured over to the main stage area for food and drink. Well done teachers for getting wet – great memories for our children.

Thanks to all the organisers – your hard work and time has given our community a wonderful event.
