In todays’ New Zealand Herald, Westmere School gets a mention and a video link for the TV Ad that was filmed with Jordan Luck and the seniors under the heading

“School’s big effort for Little Day Out” (+video)”

An Auckland primary school has taken the unusual step of making a TV ad to promote its fund-raising music festival.

Singer Jordan Luck, who will perform in the festival, and about 20 Westmere Primary students star in the 30-second ad for the school’s Little Day Out event on Saturday.

The commercial opens with Luck reflecting on “gigs you just never forget”.

“You hear the screaming, the yell of the audience, it’s just amazing….”

Special thanks to Lisa Mein and Anna Verboeket of Speak No Evil for much behind the scenes work on making this story happen.

Leo Drake-Rogers, Josh Hickey and Isaac Ah Kuoi-Atmore in their Little Day Out Tshirts talking about the Little Day Out. Go Senior school!

“A new second stage on the school’s back field will host activities organised by a committee of senior students.

Year 6 student Isaac Ah Kuoi-Atmore, 10, has organised a dance competition, a Weet-Bix-eating competition, Westmere Idol and a cream-the-teacher stall.

But fellow organiser Josh Hickey, 10, says the most popular event by far will be wet-the-teacher.

For $2 spectators can throw balls and try and soak their favourite, or least favourite, teachers.”

Also now confirmed for LDO are The Darlings who feature Jackie Clarke, Callie Blood, Wayne Bell, helped out (on the album) most tastefully by Mark Hughes (bass), Rob Galley (guitar), and Steve Garden (drums). For the Little Day Out they will play as a 3 piece.

Jackie Clarke is renowned for her maverick entertainment style, whether it is treading the boards in musicals, sitting in judgement on NZ Idol, or fronting that large band the NZSO.

Callie Blood has spent much of her musical life behind the scenes, singing with the likes of Dave Dobbyn, Barry Saunders and Jenny Morris, as well as featuring prominently on Tex Pistol’s 1987 chart-topper ‘The Game Of Love’, while Wayne Bell has been drummer to the stars, laying down the beat behind everyone from Bic Runga to Greg Johnson.

“Here is a rare thing: popular music for grown-ups. A bunch of brand new songs that will make you laugh and cry, and sing in your sleep.

Funnily, the Darlings never set out to make a classic album of grown-up pop, though that is exactly what they have done. ..”

The 15th annual Norfolk Island Country Music Festival from May 25 to June 1 is a popular event for fans and performers alike as a showcase for country music in Australasia.

New Zealand trio The Darlings headlines the festival together with Australian country musicians Bill Chambers and The Flood for a week of toe tapping action.
